We live for the kind of creative work that brings people together—and few projects capture that better than the Onyx Coffee Lab Advent Calendar. Equal parts product, campaign, and immersive experience, this annual release is one of the most ambitious undertakings on our calendar every year—and one of the most rewarding.

Each year, thousands of coffee lovers across the world open a beautifully designed box filled with 24 different coffees, complete with daily brewing guides, origin stories, and interactive educational content. This represents a massive creative lift from our team—designed, directed, and delivered with intention to allow for an incredible customer experience.


 

The Advent Calendar's Creative Undertaking

 

What sets the Onyx Advent Calendar apart is its sheer project scope. It’s not just a box of coffee—it’s a month-long experience, and building it requires the collaboration of many departments and individuals all working in sync.

 

 

Our responsibilities include:

  • Product & packaging design, including custom layout and structural engineering for both functionality and impact

  • Visual identity and campaign creative to establish the new edition's unique look and feel while maintaining Onyx’s brand integrity

  • Website and email content strategy to support the entire customer journey—from early access drops to the final cup

  • 24 custom video episodes that accompany each coffee

  • Photography for use across digital platforms, print, and PR features

  • Social campaign assets, countdown content, and engagement tools to keep the community connected throughout December

This isn’t a one-day drop. It’s a global launch that unfolds in real time—and our creative team builds every piece to work together in harmony.

The magic of the Advent Calendar isn’t just in the content—it’s in how it all comes together to feel effortless for the user. That’s where our approach to experience design comes in.

From intuitive unboxing to visual cues across content platforms, every touchpoint is mapped to surprise and delight. We obsess over sequencing. We test packaging prototypes. We plan daily videos to balance educational value with a sense of play. 

In short, we help turn a complex logistical and creative challenge into a seamless, joyful experience.


 

Elevating the Ritual, Expanding the Reach

 

The beauty of this project lies in its ritual: the daily opening of a new coffee, the brewing, the shared community posts, the educational content. But from a creative agency standpoint, what excites us most is how it blends physical product with digital storytelling in a way few seasonal campaigns ever attempt.

By pairing tactile packaging with robust multimedia content, we’re able to design a truly hybrid brand experience. One that lives on kitchen counters and phone screens, that creates anticipation and builds community—and that reflects the level of craft Onyx is known for.
